Types of visas available for India: 

      1. Indian Conference Visa:

       2. Diplomatic Visa

A foreigner holding a diplomatic or official passport is issued this visa. The visa can be processed by the Indian Consulates and Embassy.  However, the rule doesn’t apply to those who have an official, diplomatic and service passport from the United Kingdom willing to travel to India on a private visa.

       3. Emergency Visa

An Emergency visa is given the person whose family origin lies in India, and they hold a US passport. The Consular Office has the authority to approve an Emergency for any event that requires the Indian origin person holding a US passport to travel to India for a short period of time. 

To be kept in mind: situations like weddings, family holidays, religious visits are not considered emergencies.

       4. Entry Visa

An Entry Visa issued to the person who falls in any of the category given below:

A person of Indian origin and having Indian nationality sometime in the past. Such applicants need to apply under the category of Entry Visa rather than Tourist Visa, even their visit to the country requires a Tourist Visa.

Spouses/children of an Indian origin person.

Spouses/children of a foreigner travelling to India on the basis of an Employment Visa, Business Visa, Research Visa, Student Visa or any other long-term visa.

To be kept in mind: the validity period on this visa will be the same as of the principal visa validity for a person accompanying a foreign citizen having a long-term visa.

       5. Journalist Visa

This visa is given to those who come to India for activities related to journalism like a professional journalist, videographer, photographer and so on. This visa is processed within 3 to 5 days.

A Journalist Visa is valid for 3 months that starts from the very date the visa is issued.

      6. Medical Visa

A Medical Visa is given to the person who comes to India to seek medical treatment at a recognized medical institution in the country.

And, the blood relative of the Medical Visa holder coming to India can apply for a Medical Attendant Visa. At most 2 people can travel to India on the Medical Attendant Visa.

      7. Missionary Visa

A Missionary Visa is a single-entry visa that is given to those foreigners who come to Indian for religious reasons and purposes. The processing of this visa can take up to 3 months. Its validity duration is decided by the Government of India.

      8. Research Visa

A Research Visa is given to those who come to India to have research. People like students, professors, environmentalists, archaeologists, doctors, and other professional people requiring research use this visa.

       9. Student Visa

A Student Visa is given those foreign aspirants who come to India to study in a recognized Indian university or college. It is issued for the whole period the course runs, or at most 5 years, can be renewed. It is a multiple-entry visa which means the visa holder can travel to their own country and come back to India again on this visa without any need to re-apply for each visit.

      10. Tourist Visa

A Tourist Visa is issued to a foreigner who wants to travel to India for tourism purposes or meeting their friends or relatives. It comes with a six-month validity and its holder can have up to 3 entries into India. a foreigner who visits India frequently can be given a multiple-entry Tourist visa providing that their visit mustn’t be more than 180 days.

This visa is not issued to a person having their origins in India and their dependents owning property or having business interests in the country, and to people willing to travel to India for any reason other than holidaying, sightseeing or visiting friends/family.
