Medical Travel

The Medical Travel is granted to those foreigners who need medical treatment in India’s reputed and well-known hospitals, which holds specialization in treatments. With the patient, an attendant (blood relatives) can accompany, however, he or she must have a separate Medical Attendant Travel. The medical visa is not granted to those who want to come to India for surrogacy.

Hospital Authorities must share the details, documents, patient information, etc. issued to them by seeker for example medical invitation letter, an appointment letter, and so on.

And, the documents must be in a format given in Appendix II on the enclosed official email ID mentioning or requesting to the Indian Mission or Post. Furthermore, the hospital authority must provide a letter to the foreign nationals (patients or attendants) who are coming to India for the treatment.

However, if the attendant needs more time or extension of travel, then he or she needs to register themselves according to the formats, which are given in Appendix III and Appendix IV with complete details. Once the applicant is done with these details, then he or she needs to submit the form to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned.

The validity of Travel and extension (in respect of foreign citizens except Bangladeshi and Pakistani).

The government of India and the immigrant department offer foreign nationals the initial period of validity on their Medical Travel (MED Travel) or Medical Attendant Travel (MED X Travel) for up to one year or the period of the treatment finishing. However, the Indian Missions or Post abroad may grant a Medical Travel for six months with a triple entry which is a default option to all foreign nationals who are seeking medical treatment in India other than 33 countries mentioned below:

In respect of all the 33 counties, the government of India and the immigration department offers the applicants Medical Travel with less than 1 year visa validity and stay are:

• 30. Sri Lanka

The duration of the visa will be decided by the concerned Indian Missions/ Posts if the applicant is from these above-mentioned countries. However, the Missions will also decide upon the subject; 5 years Medical Travel facility with the stipulation or continuous stay in India if the medical attendant visits. However, the medical visa holder must not stay in India more than 90 days.

While giving respect to the nationals of Bangladesh and Pakistan, the government of India and the immigration department offer the nationals medical visa with some policy guidelines under the bilateral agreements (which is manipulative as per the need from time to time).

Medical Travel can be extended for a period for one year, if the applicant request to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO), concerned so that they can get a medical certificate from a Government or ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research)/ NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers)/ MCI (Medical Council of India)/ CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) recognized and well-known hospital. Still, if the applicant needs more time, then the further extension will be offered to the applicant only by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

However, in the case of Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals who seek medical treatment in India can apply for visa extension, but this will be valid for fix time with minimum numbers of entries that will be granted to the applicant by the government with some specific provisions.

Travel to an attendant or family members

Attendants or family members of the patient who is coming to India with the Medical Travel holder for treatment may provide to the Medical Attendant Travel or MED X travel. The medical attendant visa comes with the same duration or validity that medical visa contains. However, in case minor children accompanying a parent, who has come for medical treatment on Medical Travel, maybe also granted with ‘X-Misc’ travel. This Travel also has the same duration as the Medical Travel holder.

However, in the case of the foreign nationals or citizens other than Pakistan and Bangladesh nationals coming for medical treatment in India, then there should not be more than two persons or attendants. The attendant will grant a MED X travel. However, if the Pakistan nationals are coming to India for medical treatment, then there will be only one attendant allowed to come with the patient.

In the case of Bangladesh nationals coming for medical treatment in India, then there will be three attendants allowed.

Registration

Foreign nationals or citizens coming to India for medical treatment other than Pakistan nationals holding Medical or Medical Attendant Travel can stay in India for 180 days regarding medical treatment, however, they need to register themselves with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) before 14 days of their arrival in India.

If the Medical Travel holder or Medical Attendant Travel holder coming to India for medical treatment can stay for 180 days, but he or she needs to be aware that this duration must not exceed. However, if the treatment needs extra time then, he or she needs to do registration for more days to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO). But, in case, the treatment is done within 180 days or less, then there is no registration required.

Pakistan nationals holding a Medical Travel or Medical Attendant Travel will be requested to register themselves with Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) within 7 days of their arrival in India and must adhere to the duration of visa validity.

Pakistan nationals also need to register themselves with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned within 24 hours of their arrival in India and must get to know their validity of the travel.

Hospital Administrators or Obligation on Hospital

Foreigners who are visiting India for medical treatment and well-being, staying in hotels must submit their details in their accommodation so that the hospital can arrange sleeping facility in their premises in the prescribed Appendix-V or form C. Hospital administrators or hospitals should write “hospital and hospital administrators” in place of “hotel and hotel managers” in the form.

Documents required for Medical Travel

Passport

Original passport and one photocopy. And, passport bio page with information.

The passport must be signed by the passport holder. The passport validity must have at least six months before traveling. And it should have at least two blank pages so that the authority can put stamp and sticker of India on your passport. Amendment pages behind the passport aren't compatible with Indian travel.

India visa application

The Consulate of India requires or demands a visa type and application completely online. Once you will visit this site, you will get to know about the Indian visa and can easy apply for the same.

However, some of the necessary details which you should enter such as—

• Write down your name exactly as it appears in your country's passport.
• Answer the entire question which is asked in the online application.

Type of visa you want for your travel purpose in India with validity request (you will find drop-down or selection option for the validity), and other documents you need to attach, requested to put or upload.

Don’t forget to sign your documents and first page under your photograph, and on the second page. However, if you want to make your application accepted then you should have to sign all the documents which you are attaching with the visa form or application.

• Your sign must match your passport sign.
• You must sign in the middle of the box. You need to aware that your signature should not touch the edges of the box or run out of the box.

Add your active email address on your application. In case if you forget to put your email address on the application, then it may be get rejected by the consulate.

You must print your form on single-sided sheets of paper. If you print your application on double-sided pages, then the application may get rejected. And, you also need to print bar code on the bottom of page one.

Once you fill your form with correct information and document, on approval, your passport will be delivered back to your address, which you mentioned on the application.

Photo Requirement

You must have a recent photo with dimensions 2*2 passport type photo, in color with front view. The photo background must be plain or white. Your face on the photo must not have glasses. The photo should not be stapled to the application. It should be pasted.

Proof of Residency

• A clear photocopy of the applicant’s driver’s license or ID proof of address
• The residence of your address proof must match your present location.
• However, you can also attach a recent (water, Gas, Electric, Sewage) bill or a valid copy of rent affidavit with landlords and tenant signature.

Medical Requirements

A certificate of preliminary clinical recommendation or advice from the country of residence that indicates the applicant has been told to head for specialized clinical treatment. In instances where the applicant desires to head for medical treatment under the Indian system of medicine, the case can also be considered.

Proof of Sufficient Fund

The residents of any country must show their proof of sufficient funds if the applicant falls under—retired or unemployed and student. Then they need to attach three recent bank statements.

Note: Duration of Travel or the number of entries in India is purely the discretion of the Indian Embassy, or Consulate has no role in order to make any approach or process. The applicant has to observe and realize that Travel will not be a subject of right, and, hence the Embassy / Consulates might deny the visa if no longer observed the eligibility / or does no longer have adequate supporting documentation. If the process is not matching according to the demand from the authority will not grant a Medical visa if you request more days or time in India. So, provide your details and information before you submit your application, and must pay your application process amount. There will be no clarifications on this regard, and the resolution or decision of the Embassy / Consulate will probably be final.
